Simon Mawhinney is a composer and pianist. Hailed by the Irish Times as ‘ardent performer’ he has a particular interest in large scale piano works by composers such as Feldman, Messiaen and Sorabji. Several of his own works explore larger time frames including Merula (bass flute and computer), and Hunshigo (violin and piano). His most recent composition is the solo piano work, The Garden of Light, which has a duration of 140 minutes, and which will be premiered in 2022.
