From the super-fun-neon-songs of alicee and the industrial-infused experimental pop of Lia Mice’s Chaos Bells. To the free improvising dance distorting duo of -ence and the heavy genre-bending re-synthesis of Son Zept. RESIST continues its tradition of bringing exciting nights of electronic music from the leftfield to Belfast with this new event in the Banana Block. Further experimentalism coming from the eternal accelerando from pop to happy hardcore heaven by Ryo Ikeshiro and the immersive explorations of material, colour and the strangeness of the everyday from Lou Barnell.
Programme Details
Lia Mice live AV set with Chaos Bells – London based music producer and instrument designer Lia Mice will perform a live AV set of industrial-infused experimental pop featuring her latest sculptural instrument Chaos Bells. At two metres wide and two metres tall, Chaos Bells is a new oversized digital musical instrument that can create bell-like tones, drones and chaotic textures.
-ence: TBC
Ryo Ikeshiro: Eternal Accelerando – Pop music tracks are transformed so the pitch and speed continually rise higher and faster to happy hardcore heaven without ever becoming slower and lower. The process is known as the Risset rhythm based on the Shepard tone, an aural illusion equivalent to Escher’s Stairs. The accompanying music videos are also accelerated, satirising the hyper-sexualisation of promotional videos. Eternal Accelerando is a pseudo DJ-VJ set. It is a light-hearted response to accelerationism.
aliceee: superfunneonsongs
Lou Barnell: WHAT CAME BEFORE THIS is a composition with clock recordings, mixed electronics, vocals, melting ice and harp. In January 2020 I had the privilege of being invited to record the collection of clocks at The Science Museum. The museum opened at the stroke of ten just as all the clocks had begun to chime. The sounds of daily life bled into the strict sonic architecture of the clocks as they sounded, making the Museum into a breathing entity. Listening back to the sound files during lockdown, I felt an intense grief for losing time and space as we once knew it. (Clock recordings by Ian Thompson)
DJ set by Son Zept
