BIO

As Co-Investigator on the Improvising Futures project, Mervyn leads the research stream on ‘Improvisation, Public Spaces, and the Practice of Everyday Life’. His research centers the creation of solidarities through collaborative improvisation in public space. At their best, public practices of collaborative improvisation provide common ground where we elevate one another in ways that are impossible when we act alone.

When not blending punk, noise and garage rock in random basements with friends, Mervyn is Professor of Sociology at the University of Guelph (Canada) and a Faculty Fellow of Yale University Center for Cultural Sociology.
