BIO
Rachel Austin cultivates playful deconstruction through music and performance practices. From folk opera to anti-corporate immigrant improvised punk, she creates left-of-centre songs in live performance.
She was part of Belfast’s ‘ikon transformance art collective’ for 10 years and her current absurdist theatrical performances critique white female identities and obsession with power. They hold an MFA in Performance+Performance Studies from Pratt Institute and a BA in Electronic Composition from Mills College.
Her book and EP, ‘learning but never knowing,’ was published with Statement Press in 2019. Austin has performed with Anna Halprin, Pádraig Ó Tuama, David Thomson, and Paul Stapleton.
