The Lagan Towpath Soundwalk

This soundwalk combines literature, ecology, and science to weave a narrative journey from field recordings and ecoacoustic analysis, highlighting the rich biodiversity of the River Lagan Towpath.

Participants will be guided through the soundscape by a new literary narrative from Emily, offering imaginative ways to engage with the natural world and our connection to it.

Ths project extends ongoing research into ecological sound art and how sound, story, and ecology can intertwine.

Field recordings have been captured using a range of specialised microphones, including hydrophones for underwater sound, parabolic microphones for birdsong, and long-term ecoacoustic monitoring devices both above and below water. These recordings provide the raw material for analysis and creative exploration.

Bringing together distinct practices, this collaboration unites an ecoacoustic approach to listening with Emily’s skill in crafting evocative literary narratives, opening fresh avenues for experiencing the living soundscape.
