Festival ’24 Open Call – Listening Rooms

Sonorities welcomes proposals for fixed-media works to form part of our Listening Rooms programme, which will run throughout the festival in Surround Studios 1 & 2 at SARC.

Submissions Closed.

We welcome works based on field recording, electroacoustics and sound art dealing with relationships between sound and space, as well as works that explore creative and unusual approaches to recording live performance.

Surround 1 Listening Room will focus on immersive sound and music creative practice. We’re interested in works that either embrace or challenge conventional spatial audio formats and aim for an enveloping listening experience. Works can be submitted in 3rd Order Ambisonics (16 channel .wav 24bit 48kHz), Dolby Atmos (broadcast .wav files or Dolby Atmos ADM BWF in 24bit 48kHz) or fixed multichannel formats up to 9.4.1.

Surround 2 Listening Room will be open for fixed-media audio and single screen audio-visual works, ranging from mono to octophonic audio playback. For more information on the technical specifications of Surround Studios 1 & 2, please visit: https://www.qub.ac.uk/sarc/facilities/Studios/

To apply, please submit a proposal (in PDF format) by 31st August 2023 containing:

  • Artist name
  • Title and description of proposed work, including duration and format
  • Web-link to downloadable media files (hosted on DropBox, Google Drive or similar)

Please also supply a short programme note (up to 200 words), a short bio (up to 100 words), at least one promo image, and optionally a link to your artist website or other online material that could be used for promotional purposes.

Note: Sonorities is unable to provide a fee or travel expenses for selected Listening Room artists. However, Sonorities can provide a letter of support to assist with funding applications for artists who wish to attend the festival in-person
