Festival ’26 Open Call – Climate | Sound | Action
Sonorities Festival Belfast invites submissions for its 2026 edition, with one of its key programming strands focused on climate, ecology, and sustainability.
Deadline for this open call is the 31st August 2025.
We welcome works that explore or respond to environmental challenges, align with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, or propose new, sustainable approaches to artistic practice.
We are particularly interested in:
- Works that creatively engage with climate, ecological, or human issues.
- Projects that demonstrate sustainable working methods or low-impact production models.
- Audio-visual works, multichannel pieces, and works involving live performers or instruments.
Submissions should clearly articulate their relevance to the theme and how they aim to advance understanding or provoke reflection on urgent global challenges. Proposals should make explicit reference to how the work relates to specific UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Selected artists may also be invited to take part in associated talks, panels, and presentations on sustainability in the arts, as part of our collaboration with Reach 26, Queen’s University Belfast’s award-winning arts and sustainability festival.
To apply, please complete the submission form and submit a proposal (in PDF format) containing:
- Proposal Title
- Names and roles of all artists involved
- Short description of proposed work, including duration, and supporting image(s) or diagram(s)
- Link to relevant online audio or video documentation*
- Technical requirements, indicating what you will provide and what you expect Sonorities to provide
*It is the responsibility of submitting artists to ensure that the link provided is operational until the end of the open call review period (i.e. end of September 2025). Streaming platforms with unlisted and other privacy options such as YouTube and Vimeo are recommended. Avoid using platforms such as WeTransfer that require downloading of files and have links that expire.
All artists selected through this open call will receive a fee (£100 per local artist, £250 per artist traveling to Belfast to offset travel expenses). Up to three nights’ accommodation can be provided upon request. Sonorities can also provide a letter of support to assist with funding applications to cover additional costs.
