Sonorities Launch Party @ Banana Block
Wed 6th April 2022Sonorities is excited to partner with Belfast’s new living museum and events space Banana Block. For our Launch Party, we host a series of short performances by sound artists working with voice, found objects and electronics.

Leandra Lambert: Cut-up Tragedy – Belfast – Cut-up Tragedy is a multiple nomad process-project that experiments, transforms, and generates sound materials, images, words. Its depends on free walks, in a state of increasing “unruling of the senses,” collecting some fragments of the urban text, vestiges of bodies that pass by, cuts in space-time, the experience of a tragic time. It is about spaces expanded by temporal and phantasmal layers of memory and forgetfulness, places between the past, the moment and future possibilities, passages between history and fiction.
Hardi Kurda: The Stolen Violin performs with Radiola Springs – Radiola Springs demonstrate the resonance of a metallic sound that violated and try to communicate with frequencies that navigate locations inside the noises. Nonetheless, Radiola Springs tells the story of my stolen violin, 22 years of sharing sounds. It was from Germany but lived in Baghdad for more than 30 years. In the end, it has been stolen in the most trusted string shop in Gothenburg “just your violin stolen”, said the owner of the shop.
Helen Pridmore and WL Altman: Sbot N Wo Presents – Sbot N Wo will present a semi-structured improvisation based on the human voice. Employing various forms of extended vocal techniques, singer Helen Pridmore provides fertile material for sound artist WL Altman to bend, distort and manipulate the sounds, via Ableton Live freestyle, into a huge range of atmospheric, rhythmic, otherworldly soundscapes.

Una Lee: Down Gone is an audio piece exploring homophonic translation and its musicalisation, forming a part of Una Lee’s multi-format work ‘FERVĒRE’. The work thematises wild fermentation as metaphor for survival of trauma, and ‘misheard voice’ in order to address the entanglement of racism and sexism on East-Asian female body. It examines ways of listening to languages, politics of inclusion, and interrogates linguistic diversity through artistic context in the Brexit/Hostile Environment era. It aims encourage audiences to reflect on their own current cultural and political environment, and inspire them to explore their identity and heritage.
Pre-Launch Party Events
On Wednesday 6th April we open our exhibitions at QSS Gallery and host our Launch Party at Banana Block. Sonorities is providing transport to these venues via a private bus departing at 7pm following the Xenia Pestova Bennett concert at the Harty Room. The bus will arrive at QSS Gallery for the opening of the Sonorities exhibition. You can then take the short 5 minute walk from QSS Gallery to Banana Block for the Launch Party event (doors open at 8pm, Music from 8:30pm).
