BIO
Revolting Robots is a virtual, semi-organic electro-acoustic ensemble. Modular synths, keyboards, computers, and other sonic tech are used in their tracks, vids, and live performances. The band is the anonym of composer-performer Alexander Bonus, who brings extensive international experience creating works that challenge the stylistic boundaries between the past and the present. An active improviser on historical instruments, including the harpsichord, clavichord, and chamber organ, Alex now applies his classical training, under the Revolting Robots moniker, to modular synthesizers and computer systems in live performance.
Bonus’ electro-acoustic compositions often evoke a “surrealistic” sound world (The Cleveland Plain Dealer) and are performed across America. Alexander Bonus’ one-movement concerto for trombone and electronics, Mahler Fantasy, was performed and recorded by the Associate Principal Trombone of the New York Philharmonic. Revolting Robots’ recent concerts in Vienna, Berlin, Gubin, Zielona Góra, and New York highlight Bonus’ ability to weave keyboard improvisations and real-time audio processing into affecting and evocative sonic events.
